Built by a wealthy 19th century Chinese merchant, Lou Kau, and inherited by his son Lou Lim Ieoc in 1906. The garden fell into ruins when the family fortunes declined. It was eventually purchased and restored by the government and opened to the public in 1974. The garden, modelled after those in Suzhou, is a miniaturized landscape of narrow paths winding through groves of bamboo, flowering bushes and lotus ponds.
A composition found in the garden.
Built by the Jesuits in 1602, but destroyed by fire in 1835. What remains of the Catholic church is its stone facade with carvings. Indeed an odd sight to view the facade surrounded by flats and modern dwellings.
