California's coastal Highway 1 is considered one of the most scenic roads in the country. It is 88 miles from San Simeon to Monterrey of mostly rural, steep, rugged two lane road with frequent rock slides and washouts.
This was at the beach 3 miles north of San Simeon where the elephant seals were. Lots of tourists feed the squirrels, so they are quite accustomed to people.
This is actually near San Simeon on the Californai Coast
Very rugged coast up here, no surfers for a change

Typical California Coastline vista, near San Simeon
This is a Eucalyptus tree in the North Campground, may be part of the Monarch Grove area

It was still a bit cool, but that didn't seem to stop folks who like to surf. The water in CA is always cool, so they have to wear wet suits anyway.
Homes here are mostly over $1M each, even small ones.
A view of the bluff just north of our campground last night. The gap between the rocks was cut for the road (Hwy 1)
This was from our campsite just off of Hwy 1, a few miles south of Oxnard.
This was in Santa Monica, CA - one of the few times we've seen surfers actually surfing
