This is facing west from Hwy 70 as we drove down from the Paradise area.
This is Bennett Valley Road, just past Jamison Rd where Mom lived when she was in Jr. College. She said her headlights went out while she was driving along here but she was able to drive home (very carefully).
There is a lot of moss on the trees in the Napa Valley as this is a very moist area.
This is about 1/2 mile from my brother's house. We took a group hike to the end of the road to enjoy the view.
Typical Sonoma Valley scenery. Mom remembers when the Napa Valley had a lot of vineyards and the Sonoma Valley was just Dairies.
This is in the Central Valley, south of I-80. We were on the way to the RV Campground at Isleton.
This was on the CA coast, a few miles south of Half Moon Bay.
This was near Sunset Beach, the tree just looks interesting to me, like it gets a little too much wind?
I do like the rolling hills in spring, when they're green instead of golden.
They only give tours of this one day a week, which wasn't the day we drove through.
The light is actually on the far side of this rock, not visible from here.
This is where we stayed last night. It wasn't crowded at all and was very lovely.
Another view of driving on Hwy 1, the Coast Highway. Central California has one of the foggiest coastlines.
It was very foggy all day - except for the brief period where we drove through Big Sur. You can see a little fog spilling over the top of the distant hill.
We pulled over at one of the many scenic vista points to enjoy the view.
Actually, most of the beaches on this part of the coast are quite small and inaccessable. Much of the shoreline is rocky coast, but very beautiful.
California's coastal Highway 1 is considered one of the most scenic roads in the country. It is 88 miles from San Simeon to Monterrey of mostly rural, steep, rugged two lane road with frequent rock slides and washouts.
This was at the beach 3 miles north of San Simeon where the elephant seals were. Lots of tourists feed the squirrels, so they are quite accustomed to people.
Typical California Coastline vista, near San Simeon
We will not be able to tour Hearst Castle until Tomorrow, but got a nice view of it from Hwy 1 (at 12x zoom).
This vista point is actually near San Simeon, just below Hearst Castle on the California Coast
The grape vineyards extend over the last hill, and these are just the ones you can see from the road
This is just one of the many places for wine tasting in this area.
It has rained recently and the hills and fields are lush green, very beautiful spring (even though it's still winter)
This is the marina, just north of Sterns Wharf.
