This is the Eugene Talmadge Memorial Bridge we took over the Savannah River on Hwy 17 to get to the historic downtown area. It was completed in 1990, the bridge span is 1,100 feet and rises to 185 feet above the river surface.
I crossed this in my RV in about 30 mph winds (very slowly).
A glance of the Alps and the Inns before our first walk into the peaceful historic town.
Another example of one of the new truss style bridges, this one leading into Charleston from the north
Looks deceptively tranquil - the blazing sun and terrible roads making for long, bumpy, dusty and rough journeys outside Vang Vieng as i cycled around the caves and paddyfields.

Here is where you drop down and go under the water. There are two tunnels, each one about a mile long.
This is a view of the beginning of the bridge tunnel from the Cape Charles side on the north. If you look closely, you can see the wind blowing the whitecaps.
When this bridge was completed, it greatly improved traffic between New Jersey & northern towns and Delaware, Maryland and southern towns. However, it also eliminated the economic benifits the ferry traffic had brought to New Castle.
