The London Eye, also known as the Millennium Wheel, is an observation wheel in London, England. At the time it was erected, it was the largest/tallest observation wheel in the world. The London Eye has become the most popular paid visitor attraction in the UK, visited by over 3.5 million people a year. London is the home of the Government of the United Kingdom which is located around the Houses of Parliament in Westminster. Many government departments are located close to Parliament, particularly along Whitehall, including the Prime Minister's residence at 10 Downing Street.
London is the capital and largest urban area of England and the United Kingdom. At its core, the ancient City of London, to which the name historically belongs, still retains its limited mediaeval boundaries; but since at least the 19th century the name "London" has also referred to the whole metropolis which has developed around it.Today the bulk of this conurbation forms the London region of England and the Greater London administrative area, with its own elected mayor and assembly.
The area is popular with students, including those from overseas. It is also an area with a large congregation of people following alternative subcultures, most notably goth, punk, rave, mod and emo.
