Hanling at Mt. Rushmore. We met at Wind cave campground and toured Rushmore together.
Doane Robinson is credited with the idea of carving some president's faces in the granite of the Black Hills to promote tourism. In 1927 Gutzon Borglum was contacted to carve the faces. He was picked because of his success at Stone Mt. Georgia with the Confederate Memorial.
Each President has a turn-out on the President's Trail. Each head is 60ft (18m) tall. The President's heads were completed between 1934 & 1939.

Night program at Rushmore. I did not have a tripod but used the top row to steady my camera. The Ranger asked all veterans to come on stage to be honored.
I recommend you catch the evening program if you have time. It is worth seeing.
