under the prayer flags of blessings

This was taken in Kham an area of Eastern Tibet where many unbrella type constructions of prayer flags or Lungta, were displayed in a huge meadow at a sacred spot hear the lagang temple.

Nomad's tent on the Grasslands of Kham, Eastern Tibet

The Tundra of Eastern Tibet is bright green in the short summer season in July and August and white with snow most of the ten month winter season. Nomads graze yak, sheep and goats and live far from their neighbors. Their tents are cool in summer and warm in winter because the hand woven yak wool strips are loose when it is warm and tight in cold air.They look like huge spiders crouching on the green carpeted hills.

Sunning of the Buddha

Sunning of the Buddha Festival at Ta'er Lamasery in Qinghai Province takes place each July. A huge tapestry is carried to a hillside and displayed for a few hours, ending in prayers and chanting by the monks. Then masked dancing follows. This is at the monastery where Dalai Lama was trained as a child before being taken to Lhasa to live in the Potala.
