Wood bison. Smaller of the two sub species. Re-introduced into AK in 1928 from Montana. The herd grew to 400 by 1950 when hunting was allowed. Today there are appox. 900 bison in 3 separate herds. AK allows 100 bison permits yearly.
Polar bears in AK are in the Beaufort Sea. Their numbers have been falling due to climate change. Warm temps mean less ice and polar bears need sea ice to hunt seals.
Thinhorn or Dall's sheep. Sheep inhabit the subarctic mountain ranges in AK.
