Athens, Greece - Dekelia (Tatoi) Air Base. PZL-Mielec M-18 Dromader single engine aircraft.
This is the visitors center at Kill Devil Hills, where the first flight actually took place.
The visitors center has displays showing how the Wright Brothers used scientific experiments to develop the principles that enabled them to build the first successful airplane
The Wright Brothers didn't just build a wing that they thought would work, the tested different shapes in a wind tunnel they built
This sculpture, by Steven H. Smith, is a life size depiction of the first flight. You can walk around the figures and feel as if you are part of the action
This is a replica of the wind tunnel the Wrights built to test different wing and propeller
The plaque and granite mark the spot where the first flight took off.
This is on the top of one of the dunes at Kill Devil Hills, where many of the glider flights were made in 1902.
This is very accurate replica of the Wrights first flier. The original is in the Smithsonian.
The narrow rail in the ground was used to launch the plane. The first granite marker on the left shows where the plane took off. Each of four flights on Dec. 17, 1903 went a little farther, markers show where each one landed
These are replica's of the two buildings the Wright Brothers used to assemble their plane once they got to Kitty Hawk. They also used tents. The one on the left was the hanger & shop, on the right, their living quarters.
I worked as a pilot for Beijing PanAm Academy in China. This is me in a local village near the airport called Han surrounded by school children who we had just taught English. There are no foreigners in this part of China and the children went nuts over our visit to the school.
