as i work on a cruise ship i have a chance to take some nice photos. I took this snap while in the Carribean island of Mayreau. It was our Beach BBQ day, where we take all the food and berverage opertion off the ship and bring it shoreside!

Playa Roja

Playa Roja is one of the most beautiful beaches in the Paracas National Reserve due to its reddish colour shore. This characteristic, most unusual along the Peruvian coast, confers this beach a quite unique beauty. The red colour of the sand is caused by the nearby massif of Punta Santa Maria, formed by a sort of igneous rock known as pink granodiorite, which contains solidified magma inside. When breaking against the cliffs of Punta Santa Maria, the waves carry fragments of the reddish rocks that then settle on the shore, in beautiful contrast with the yellow and ocher colours of the cliffs.
