This oak was grown from one of the last acorns from the King Alfred Oak in the gardens of Blenheim Palace in England and was planted here in 1928.
This English oak was planted in the Vergelegen gardens between 1700 and 1706, when the then governor of the Cape, Willem Adriaan van der Stel, owned the property.

This lane of camphor trees, now classified a historical monument, was planted by Van der Stel during his occupancy of the estate in the early 1700s.
