The more than 900-year-old citadel, Hohensalzburg Fortress, built in 1077 by Archbishop Gebhard, considerably enlarged by Archbishop Leonhard von Keutschach (1495-1519), largest, fully-preserved fortress in central Europe. The medieval princes' apartments and the Fortress Museum, funicular railway departing from the Festungsgasse.
Amberd Fortress and Castle
Acrocorinth (Akrokorinthos) is one of the most important medieval castle sites of Greece. It rises about 570 meters above the surrounding plain and was the acropolis of the ancient city of Corinth (Korinthos).
My husband went inside this famous Swedish fortress and snapped this from the window upstairs while I waited below. (They wouldn't let me bring our Shepherd pup inside.)
