Wonder if it counts as 'free range'?
This park was a LOT bigger than expected. Lots of people seemingly with no work to do just stretching, doing tai chi and gossiping in Chaozhou which I immensely enjoyed. This park, dotted with temples here and there, was also where I crashed a religious procession...
Went to a hole-in-a-wall called Hu Rong Quan (胡荣泉) - a local favourite for cheap food. The staff were chummy so they get the thumbs up from me too (though the spring roll was filled with some sort of yellow bean which was unexpected. Tasted too healthy).
I can't remember what was in it but I *think* it was tea. Meh. Whatever it was, it tasted nice :)
Beautiful artwork in Kaiyuan Temple.
This statue is housed in Chaozhou's most famous attraction, the still active Kaiyuan Temple built in AD 738. This picture shows the front of Guanyin - there's still a whole lotta' arms to the side and at the back which you can't see in this picture!
Note that there's a unique middle part made out of boats strapped together with planks of wood! Perhaps they ran out of stone? Or perhaps, instead of a drawbridge, this middle bit could be quickly dismantled to let big boats through on the River Han? Who knows...
Going through the narrow market alleys of Chaozhou, I couldn't help but smile at all the Chaozhou I could hear being spoken.
Me in my ancestral home of Chaozhou!! This is on the famous Guangji Bridge, built in the Song Dynasty, which crosses over the River Han.
