It was a cool morning and there was a very gentle breeze blowing over the Nile. We were taking in the quietitude befor the fierce sun of the day made things uncomfortable.
The innermost shrine of Horus. This was a pretty hard photo to get as it was dark inside... Compared to other things we have seen, the comparative preservation of these items is pretty amazing.
This is Horus, the ancient falcon god. He is attributed with making the sun rise and set and the moon wax and wane. It's actually pretty funny - once a year they would carry a statue of Horus' wife into the shrine and leave the two alone together... ;-)
This temple is famous in Egypt because it is so well preserved. The Egyptians are particularly proud because this shrine to the ancient god Horus was actually built by a Greek (they take it as a compliment to the 'strength' of their culture that the temple is so authentic!)
