The 1 1/2 hour boat tour up the Black River is well worth it. Cruise in a comfortable Safari boat past giant Red Mangrove trees with their stilt-like roots cascading from heights of over 40' down into the tranquil waters. See the rare and endangered American Crocodile in it's natural habitat and view some of the 100 species of exotic birds in these unspoiled wetlands. You can also view local fisherman still catching fresh crabs in long, thin, traditional wooden canoes - in the same river as the crocodiles!
Liquid fire. It ravages your palate, assaults your throat and finally ends up as a noticeable warmth spreading through your belly. This is Jamaican rum, a volatile liquid created largely from molasses, a byproduct of extracting sugar from sugar cane. In the mid-1800s Jamaica boasted 670 rum distilleries. Today, less than a handful remain, but the production numbers are up. Two of Jamaica’s oldest and best-known rum factories welcome visitors to sip, explore and take home souvenirs of Jamaica’s potent “white lightning.
Dunn's River Falls has a height of approximately 1,000 feet (300 m). The waterfalls are terraced like giant stair steps of which some are man-made improvements. Several small lagoons are interspersed among the vertical sections of the falls. Being rebuilt continuously from deposits of travertine rock (the result of precipitation of calcium carbonate) and sodium from the river water, geologists often describe the Dunn's River Falls as “a living phenomenon”. Thermal spring activity in the limestone caves usually associates the small dome-shaped cataracts. These characteristics, together with the fact that the waterfall actually empties directly into the sea (which is a trait found in only a very few waterfalls around the world), are the features that make the Dunn's River Falls the only one of its kind in the Caribbean, if not the world.

The Blue Hole in Ocho Rios Jamaica has become one of my favorite places. It’s one of my more recent discoveries. I only found out about it because I’ve been spending lots of time in the countryside, trying to find those hidden gems in my country. Even my local Jamaican friends didn’t know this place existed.
