"Wishes" in wood, in a temple near Himeji Castle. A friend which lived in Japan for a long time told me that the wishes are so diverse as people are: for good luck, for a better job, for health and money, for love... everything is OK!
A detail of Himeji Castle wall. I like the contrast between the tree's green and the stones' grey.

Well, here is Himeji Castle again, seen from another perspective, proudly standing at the top of a small hill. Also known as "White Heron", the largest feudal castle in Japan remains undamaged since its inauguration, in 1610. Its main tower is about 151 feet high. I've visited some fine castles and palaces in Europe and China before, but this one is my favorite, for sure.

Here is Himeji Castle, one of the prettiest and most preserved in Japan, located about 650km west of Tokyo. Known as "White Heron", it is the largest Japanese feudal castle and remains undamaged since its inauguration, in 1610. It was constructed on the top of a small hill and its main tower is about 151 feet high. In 1993, it was registered on UNESCO's World Heritage list.
These binoculars would have been pretty handy for the samurais, just a bit annoying you have to have 100 Yen on you.
