The highest point at Jingshan Park provides a great view of the Forbidden City.
Our PE class at Jingshan...martial arts, tai chi, and some serious games of badmitton. Hannah and I are undefeated champions
Learning Tai Chi at Jingshan
Toilets in Jingshan school and around China. Actually easier to use than Western toilets. Each one has a different way to flush and this takes some time to figure out.
The hallways in the school are actually quite dark and are not heated.
Our Chinese teacher took us on a field trip for lunch to a restaurant across the street so we could practice ordering in Chinese (our lesson for the week). The kids got ice cream cones at McDonalds after lunch. McDonalds is night next to the school.
At Jingshan, the American sstudents have special classes just for them. This is geography class, which is a favorite of mine. That's my map.
Another class is Chinese knot tying. This is very hard.
Our teacher does not speak English but she is very good at helping us with our projects. Mine got sent back once before being approved.
I struggle a bit in this class, but really enjoy it
Gao Ying teaches next door to us during our caligraphy class. She came in afterwards and showed off her skills.
I try to do caligraphy, but I am not so good.
Kristen is much more patient than I when it comes to caligraphy.
Kristen and I found these tea mugs for 4Y at the WuMart. You put your tea in the bottom and there is a strainer so when you drink it, you don't eat the leaves. Brilliant! I just haven't figured out what to do with the leaves when I am done. Typically they get flushed down the toilet.
Kristen is a vegetarian and the school is good about not giving her anything with meat in it.
Students have to buy their lunch everyday (8Y). They pay a monthly fee and get a box lunch.
The teachers eat in a different cafe than the students. We get a hot meal with about 5 options, bread, rice and soup. You have to bring your own chopsticks.
The American students eat in the teachers lunchroom.
The swim team at Jingshan consists of students from neighboring schools in addition to Jingshan. Jingshan has a 50 m pool. Most of the swimmers are under 12. The older students have to study for their college entrance exams, so they don't always come to practice.
This is where I help Coach everyday. He is really nice and I have a group of my own to teach.
Kristen and I sit in the front of the English office by the door.
Kristen's team was the losing team x2 for our English office party games.
My team won both the games.
