Looking out over Lake Tekapo. Striking a pose.
Looking down on the lake from the top of mount hay.
For one magical tourist-free moment, the Church of the Good Shepherd stood all alone in the middle of a landscape suffused with gorgeous late afternoon light.
View from on top of Mt. John; you can see eternity from up there.
It seemed fitting...
The Tekapo Canal, transporting vividly colored water from Lake Tekapo to Lake Pukaki through the Mackenzie Country; I just love those colors.
It had been snowing heavily for two days, and this day had been all grey. Right until sunset, when suddenly the clouds broke, and the most stunning orange light flooded over the land.
The breaking up of the clouds continued, here for the first time in two days revealing that there were hills beyond the church. The purity of the white snow was truly amazing.
Seen from on top of Mt. John. The Southern Alps are just gorgeous. I walked all the way to the Lake later that day. -sighs happily in fond remembrance-
Because once is never enough for a place _this_ beautiful. I think I liked these winter colors even better than what I saw during the summer. - Not certain though, so I'll head back soon to confirm... just in case. :P
Another sunrise - this time from on top of Mt. John - was just past when on a hunch I decided to head back all the way to the Church of the Good Shepherd rather than to the hostel. Good decision!
