The Dal Lake in Srinagar in the state of Jammu and Kashmir in India is 8 Km long and has a of width of 4 Km, spreading over a total of 26 Sq. Km. If one is in Srinagar, boat rides in Dal Lake is an experience. These colourful boats are called Shiksaras and one could just get rowed for hours. You would find floating gardens within this lake, and if you should push the garden down into the lake with a stick, it would float up again. I found people in boats picking up whatever they have grown.
It is the specialty in Srinagar in Kashmir. There are hundreds of houseboats lined up at the edge of the lake. The tourists spent a night or two in these luxurious hotels on water with the beauty of the snow capped mountains surrounding the lake, perhaps moving on to hotels on land to spend rest of their stay. I had spent 2 days in one of these houseboats and I experienced moments of great ecstasy. This how the row of houseboats glitter in the lake water at night.
