Nautical club at Grand Bay Beachcomber Hotel "MAuritia"
A real impressive network of buses is available in Maurirtius, despite the fact that most buses are almost a century old!! No comfort , no air conditioning, no smile from the drivier whose attention is 100% on the road and the traffic!!! Most drivers are, I would dare say "road hogs", they jam on the accelerator at any occasion, even in Heavy traffic, and jump suddenly on the breaks, with no further notice, if some pedestrian decides to cross the road.. Fares are quite cheap, for instance, a ride of about 15 minutes, from the "Pointe des Canonniers", north of Mauritius, to Grand Bay will cost you no more than 35 rupies for a family of 3( about 30cents!!!) The same ride with your Hotel Cabbie will cost you 7 to 8 dollars (around 5 €uros)!! One can also shoose to take a "taxi boat" from the beach shore of your hotel, and this trip will cost you 40 €uros (50 dollars) but you can discuss the price and cut the original price by 2 or even by 4 if you're persuasive!! The sea option is anyway the most enjoyable trip (no Carbon Oxyde at all....always remember that most engines are not from the last generation!!) and the "pilot" or rather the "mariner" will have time to tell you stories about his country, ( the cab drive will not last more than 10 to 15mns, the boat ride will at least last around 45 minutes, from the Canonniers Hotel to the "Port" of Grand Bay.
