A huge, kitsch statue of one of Russia's hero's
I can't really translate this but it is a good example of Soviet-era war art, I think
Changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Every hour they change sweaty guards. While the troop highstep it along the path, a another soldier ruthlessly and rudely pushes people, tourist and local alike, well away from the path
Russian war dead number in the tens of millions. This tomb is of an unknown soldier retrieved from the ruins of the siege of Stalingrad. You're never far from a dark and violent history in Russia, it seems.
