AUSTRIA_riverstones mosaics in Sala Terrena of Greinburg Castle

Sala Terrena - at the end of the courtyard, constructed in 1625. Those grotto rooms are unique in Austria as one of the earliest examples of such an interior room north of the Alps. Outstanding and unusual, spacious rooms all covered with figurative and ornamental mosaics in Danube pebbles (riverstones). Greinburg is the oldest residential castle of Austria (was built from 1500 to 1700).

ITALY_Ravenna_doves on St Francis Church

Church is very nice, with flat stone facade, facing the square, floated mosaic floor in the crypt. There are also the tomb of Dante Alighieri. What is really beautiful - that all this hand-made treasure is living and breathing for longer then 10,000 years. It continues. That what I especially like about it.

Basilica San Vitale is dating from ... 525. It's so old that hard to undersand. From outside - San Vitale is a small domed church in the Byzantine architectural style. But from inside - the ceilings of the choir and apse glitter with magnificent Byzantine mosaics in green and gold.

ITALY - Mosaic art of Marco Bravura: "Roto B" in San Vitale, Ravenna

On the grounds of Ravenna’s Basilica di San Vitale, master mosaicist and Ravenna native, Marco Bravura used gold smalti scraps to create his "Roto B".
