It was amazing to watch and listen to these young performers sitting on the pavement of Calcutta ; lost in their music ...against the backdrop of paintings or photographs hanging from dilapidated walls and oblivious of the passers-by.
( From L to R ) Jeannette from USA on ektara, Marie from France on flute and Reshmi from India on ektara. P.S. Ektara literally means ek = one and tara = string ie a musical instrument with one string. This is an instrument used by wandering bards or minstrels of Bengal.
Hot. A strange town somewhere down under. Christmaseve. The few locals perform on the main street. An evening to remember.
In an old homestead, in the middle of nowhere, in the Northern Territory in Australia, I found this old piano. It sounded terrible, due to the hot weather and the fact that nobody played it anymore, but it made me feel at home.
