Today, we still find the typical traditional fishing boats being used in many parts of the eastern world and specifically in India's Eastern & Western coasts. These boats are mainly used by small time fishermen. Here is one with a difference. During the winter season from October till March, scores of people visit the picnic town of Taki situated in West Bengal in India. The river Ichhamoti separates the Indian border from Bangladesh. Tourists are very keen to take rides on these boats which take them deep into the border line of Bangladesh as it passes the picnic spots lined along the shores of the river, venturing into deep forest land approaching the Bangladesh border. Some prefer having a pleasant float on a traditional boat. When the tourists are gone, these small time fishermen return to their small time fishing.

This area is sometimes called as a mini "sunderban". An amazing place along the edge of the River Ichamati which separates India and Bangladesh ..

The Dal Lake in Srinagar in the state of Jammu and Kashmir in India is 8 Km long and has a of width of 4 Km, spreading over a total of 26 Sq. Km. If one is in Srinagar, boat rides in Dal Lake is an experience. These colourful boats are called Shiksaras and one could just get rowed for hours. You would find floating gardens within this lake, and if you should push the garden down into the lake with a stick, it would float up again. I found people in boats picking up whatever they have grown.
