This is the way the main cell block looks today. It doesn't look like a fun place to spend a summer or two.
The guard tower sits on top of the water tank for the prison.
The main entrance through the wall was called the Sallyport, from the Spanish "salir por la puerta", meaning "to go out the door"
The prison is right on the Colorado River where the old bridges cross.
There was one cell used for prisoners who caused too much trouble. It had no light (no holes at all), so was called 'the dark cell' - duh.
This is the inside of one of the cells that's been set up to reflect about how it looked when in use (circa 1900?). Not much room for six men.
