David really enjoyed the train ride. We went over 3,000 feet up the mountains into Canada and then back down. OMG - too much height on a small rail for Phyl. On two occasions you travel across wooden bridges and are suspended in the air. Phyl was too afraid to look down - that fear of heights!
The Southern Pacific RR built the wooden RR Cars in Sacramento about 1875. This one remained in use for passenger service until 1913, when it was converted for use by RR work crews and used until 1938 when it was abandoned.
This was built in 1907 and remained in use until 1956. It may have originally burned coal, but was converted to burn oil at some point.
