The Central Market of Hoi An, Vietnam is an institution. A busy, crowded, well-used institution. Between the carts of the vendors, the feet of the shoppers, and the more than occasionally intruding flood waters from the river, the streets of the Central Market are covered in potholes. In an effort to smooth the way, the market vendors have filled the worst potholes with broken flip flops - or perhaps the flip flops just got stuck in a pothole and rather than struggle, the owners left them behind.

A selection of the clogs you can buy at the 'clog shop' in the Netherlands...
Probably a men's size, but I don't care... they are cute and quirky! I chose Delft blue in honour of the craftspeople who create the gorgeous china designs in Holland
Start with a fresh piece of timber, and begin carving while still 'wet'. Begin by carving rough outside shape, then carve hole for foot. Slice off excess from toe and heel area, then leave to dry for two weeks. Sand and paint to finish.
A regular sight in America.
New pair of Vasque Breezes
My old shoes, now retired. Vasque Breezes.
After serving me well for 3 years, plus 6 weeks in Europe, my beloved and travelled flip flops finally collapsed in exhaustion. We were miles from our hostel, meaning I could not quickly hobble barefoot back to the room and change my shoes, and it was too early in the morning for any Italian shoe salesmen to be out of bed. Consequently, I trekked about Rome for the better part of the morning shoeless. My feet became blackened with Roman grime, and a lady attempted to kick a barefooted me out of the Pantheon. By attempted, I mean I put my deceased shoes back on, gripped them firmly with my toes, and did this mad sort of shuffle around the place.
