While Robbie continues his tour of Russia in search of those elusive volleyball games he comes across the great square outside the Romanov family's Winter Palace in St Petersburg and wonders what the fuss was really all about. Yes, this is where the Soviet experiment all started. And to think it was all because a few volleyball players from the Palace Guard and the local Peasants Union couldn't agree on the final score after a social game one lazy autumn afternoon. Sadly, no volleyball has been played at this square since. Robbie ponders as to whether the court might have been a little too big.
Near where we were staying in the outer suburbs of St Petersburg, there is this very cute pink church.
This elaborate Russian Orthodox church was built on the spot where Tsar Alexander 2 was assassinated.
