A fairly typical building in old town Lucerne.
Staring out from the battlements toward the lake and much of the city center.
The river below the battlements with bits of the old and new towns.
Cows grazing in the middle of Lucerne. Weird place.
One of the towers along the city wall. I climbed that!
A neat building, what can I say?
Even the industrial looking buildings look like they're out of the future. The only thing Lucerne has: old classy buildings and hyper-futuristic ones. That's not quite true but close.
More futuristic buildings in Lucerne. Switzerland is proof that socialism works - they're way wealthier on average than Americans, have better healthcare, have better environmental policy and their buildings look nicer and are built to last. We could learn some lessons.
The Lucerne Lion. It's a monument to the Swiss who died in the French Revolution.
More futuristic buildings...
A neat building.
A crazy looking church.
The futuristic Art Museum and the futuristic train station in the background.
Two nearly naked men wrestling.
A view of the old town from across the lake.
The castle from the north bank of the Salzach River
Faber Strasse in Salzburg
The old town of Salzburg (the the newer town across the Salzach River in the background) as viewed from the Salzburg Fortress
Looking south from the top of the Salzburg Fortress.
A nice looking church below the Salzburg fortress.
The crazy food tray of a fellow traveler. There are numerous mugs, cups, bowls and plates. He was gone getting a bunch of toast when I took this picture...
A neat baroque building in the Salzburg old town.
The main square of Ljubljana with Baroque buildings across the Ljubljanica River and the Ljubljana Castle on the hill in the background.
The American Embassy in Ljubljana. Way to go, America! You locked down one of the coolest buildings in Ljubljana.
Another strange reminder of Yugoslavia: One can buy train tickets at this window ONLY if one is planning to travel to Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Serbia or Macedonia. Weird...
