The freezing water was a shock after Thailand's lukewarm ocean swimming!
Our river raft guide has a good laugh (and doesnt stop laughing) at the dorky falangs!
This actually looks quite cute until you see behind the scenes the sharp metal sticks they prod them with to make them perform...this was just before an elephant show, where they made the elephants dance to music and hula hula hoops on their legs...it was at this point that I started bawling and Will started hurrumphing at how undignified it all was for these graceful animals...we had to leave the show. No other tourists seemed to mind though, but for us it was a tawdry spectacle of nothing but man's power overcoming beast and we wanted no more of it :( We shouldve known better seeing it at all, but they sold it to us as seeing 'elephants at work' which we thought (a bit naively) would be a little closer to their natural day to day activities...?
Well, I've never stood next to one before!
A nervous Di grins as the elephant searches for any bananas she might be secretly stashing under her shoes...
Di and Will on a jungle river raft cruise(with stickers so we don't get lost)
I can't remember its name but Will standing next to it displays its enormous scale (the size of a two storey building!)
You can't see too well in the picture, but the Thais have painted Buddha's fingernails with gold paint! Well a Buddha must always look their Buddhaful best...!
