One of the many kids I met who are HIV positive.
This is a home visit to 15 year old James. James is an orphan and is living HIV positive but doesnt know it. People decided not to tell him about his status as they are worried about his reaction and the hight suicide rate of teenagers in the community of Usa River (about 20 km. outside Arusha). James was home from school that week we visited him. All he knows is that he is sick. James likes listening to the radio which he has managed to wire up through his bedroom window, using his neighbours power.
One of the east coast beaches of Zanzibar.
Late in the evening, a storm approaches and an old boat stranded on a Zanzibar beach catches the last of the light.
Stevenson is HIV positive. He is an orphan. He lives in a house made of mud and wood.
Some local boys hanging out. The wet season meant they needed gumboots to get anywhere, as the unmade roads were thick with mud.
This was at the entrance to a persons house in rural northern Tanzania. I was there as a volunteer, visiting people living with HIV as part of a community outreach program.
these are some of the orphans who joined our day care centre drinking their porrige inthe morning.
