When the western territories have united with the Kingdom of Serbia the Croats have became the second largest nation within the Kingdom. King Alexander has tried to convince them that the 3 nations are all equal by dedicating a royal park to the Croatian nation.
The royal palace is used for residential purposes by the former royal family of Serbia and Yugoslavia, the Karadjordjevici.
New- century- reinassance was brought from across the Adriatic, through blood relations with the Italian royal family.
Beeing blood related to the Italian royal family the Karadjordjevic dynasty has reflected those close ties through the interior and exterior of their residential palace.
The garden behind the royal chappel offers a trumendeous panoramic view towards New Belgrade.

Royal mansion is composed of several smaller palaces, ownership of the overthrowned Karadjordjevic dynasty. The White Palace was used primarily as a diplomacy court, for foriegn receptions, banquets etc. Tito and Milosevic have used the palace in the same manner, however after the October revolution in 2000 the mansion was returned to its rightful owners, the former royal family.
Beeing Orthodox Christians, Serbs celebrate their weddings in a slightly different manner than in the West...this is quite an often sight in the capital on the weekends.
Following its declaration of independence, on July 28th 2006, Serbia retrieved its parliament building that had been used for the federal purposes throughout the 20th century. Neo-baroque building has previously served as a parliament of the Yugoslav Kingdom and later, Republic, as well as the Parliament of the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro that came to an end in June 2006.

The interwar period in Belgrade saw a great influx of residents into the capital of a new unified state of Yugoslavia, successor of the Kingdom of Serbia. Belgrade has united with Zemun and areas north of the Danube and Sava which increased its population up to 500,000 in the eve of WWII. Underneeth the Serbian flag you can see the emblems of the Kingdom (representing lands of Serbia, Croatia and Slovenia that comprised the first state).

From the top of the mountain where Djurdjevi Stupovi monastery lies, view is just fantastic. Is it just the historical backround of the place (ancient capital) or a real, unspoiled beauty? I would say both. In front of us lie the mountains of sacred Kosovo, Serbian Holy Land, and behind us are rugged peaks of Montenegro, coastal Orthodox pearl. You don't have to be Serbian to feel sort of a reverence when you find yourself standing on this soil- you just can't stay indifferent.
Oplenac Mausoleum, part 2. (central Serbia, Topola- the revolutionary city)
This church (St George) was built in early 20th century to serve as a burial site of the Karadjordjevic dynasty. Why here? Well, it was in this fortified town where George Petrovic, founder of the dynasty, has launched the revolution- First Serbian Uprising, leading to the formation of modern Serbia and emancipation from Ottoman Empire. The mausoleum itself is located below church's ground level and its entirior is decorated with beautiful mosaics, inspired by medieval Serbian frescoes which are famous throughout the world for its cultural and artistic value.
This 12th century monastery (that was built on the site of the previous monastery), is located in relative proximity of the earliest recorded Serbian capital of Ras (state of Raska, IX-XII c.). It has been renewed by the Nemanjic dynasty (Stefan Nemanja), under whose rule Raska and Zeta have unified and started expanding in all directions, forming eventually a Serbian Kingdom and an Empire. Overlooking the mountains of Kosovo, Raska and Montenegro, once the heartland of the Serbian state, today this forgotten town lies in ruins, waiting to be excavated, surrounded almost entirely by Muslim communities of Serbia (Bosniaks) and Kosovo Albanians.
