Everyone loves a sunset! The landscape changed overnight as we passed through the Gobi desert into China.
Final km of a 2 day trek to visit a monastery within a national park 60km South-West of Ulaan-Bataar.
The drive to and from the village in the East of U-B took us through some beautiful, unspoilt countryside.
We were diven a warm welcome by the family of a gur on our horse trek through the valley of a pine forest. The Mongolians are renowned for their hospitality, possibly born as a result of their harsh winters and nomadic lifestyle.
The food we were served by the grandmother at the gur was really good and filling, perfect for a 6 hr horse trek the following day. We were given milky tea, bread, mutton with pasta, and yoghurt. The yoghurt was the best i've tasted.
This was the grandfather of a family me and Trine stayed with overnight in a tradional gur. We were 60km east of Ulaan-Bataar in a valley of pine forests. They made us feel genuinely welcome and fed us so well that i had to roll out of their house! We endeared ourselves to them by sharing our beers around! They were poor by material standards but rich in the happiness that they have in their lives.
Signs of Soviet influence can be seen in the architecture of some Mongolian buildings, such as the grey concrete one in the foreground.
A picture of Benny Hill to indicate that this is the little boys room in Dave's Bar on Sukhbator Square in Ulaan-Bataar! Joanna Lumsley as Patsy in Ab Fab was on the door to the ladies, i hope she was getting paid because the hook through her back looked painfull!
A bunch of reprabates in an irish bar in Ulaan-Bataar. The Guiness was not as good as back home but i still drank it all!
First glimpse of Mongolia at dawn on a misty morning. A much welcome sight after four and a half days on a train!
