At the Foot of the Serrano Glacier

The Serrano glacier lies on the eastern side of the Bernardo O'Higgins National Park in southern Chile. One can walk to the base or take a zodiac. This photo captures both means of getting up close and personal--and conveys the sheer size of the glacier with the boat dwarfed and even smaller hikers to the left. Taken with a Nikon D-90. Cropped.

A beautiful photograph. The swath of brown, gray and blue colours, especially the blue, are wonderful; like large brush strokes of an impassioned artist, and the contrast of size between the glacier and the boat (and the hikers!) is impressive! Nice to know we haven't lost ALL of the glaciers due to global warming!
