Volissos is the largest and most important village of the northern (less travelled and discovered) part of the island of Hios. There you can find some fine examples of traditional architecture, a castle above the village and one of the best guest houses in Greece. You also have at your disposal more than 10 km of beautiful beaches with crystal clear waters only 2 km far from the village. You can use Volissos as a base to explore the almost isolated villages of Northern Hios where every day life seems to have stuck in the 50's. At Kourounia, a village about 15 km from Volissos you can taste the famous from the ancient years, Ariousios Oinos, the local wine, that's been produced, almost in the same way it did from the time of Homer
