Fertility Festival at Langde Village, Guizhou Province, China

Fertility festivals are held every 13 years in principal villages of the Miao to insure good harvest and good fortune for next astrological cycle. The festival lasts for three or four days with the local shaman blessing each household followed by solomnly dancing in a circle with eveyone in the village, young and old taking part. On the thrd day there is a huge feast and everyone goes home happy. Langde is a world heritage site and the thirteen surrounding villages are invited to the festival. I have attended two fertility festivals here.
