Live your life as it comes...
From the 1st of January, 2013, I will be travelling Australia from Tasmania to Darwin via the Snowies, the Murray and the Red Centre on bike for around two or so years. The goals are four fold:
1. Economic: the goal is to work the Harvest Trail and to take on short-term roles to pay-off my credit-cards AND to save in order to get back to university to write my thesis for my Master of Applied Linguistics in either 2014 or 2015 as a stepping stone to get into PhD studies in liguistics;
2. Opinion Making: discover Australia, its natural beauty and its people to make a better judgement about what Australia means to me;
3. Linguistic: explore the linguistic diversity, to practice languages, to intereact with people from a range of linguitic backgrounds, and to gain experience in potential data gathering/collection and field work as a budding linguist; and
4. Indigenous Australia: interect, explore, and work with the indigenous communities in Australia and their languages along the way (if possible, or welcomed by those communities).
Along the way, I hope to camp and CouchSurf as much as possible and hope to get tips about where to find a bit of work along the way. Also, I hope to do short-term contract roles with the detention centres around the country teaching English to asylum seekers and refugees, or working with those people in health and fitness. Further, I hope to work in the Snowies / near Kosciusko over winter 2013.
My choice to travel Australia by bike, as I did in Europe, allows me:
a) to reduce my carbon foot print;
b) keep fit; and
c) to interact with the land and its people.
