Leave it better than you find it
Environmentalist, expert in ancient fire making and technology.
I run survival courses for the 21st century - learning from our 'ancestors' how to live with the environment.
Learning ancient skills and crafts, travel and camping, reading and learning, exploring and living.
My home, here in the old harbour of Stromness, Orkney Isles of Scotland. A three story stone building from the 1750's, with a peat fire burning in the living room, two cats curled up on the mat.
Other places include the mountain tops of North Wales, The River Tay in Perthshire, Scotland, the Brough of Birsay, West Orkney - where the Atlantic Ocean meets the North Sea in a froth of white water, and other places like the Alps, Rockies, Iceland, and cities like Edinburgh, Vancouver, Copenhagen.
FiveSenses hasn't logged any travels yet.
Born in North Wales and worked as a mountain guide in the Snowdonia National Park, managed hostels and explored every attraction. I know the north of Wales like the back of my hand!
I live here in Scotland and have run hotels, hostels, tour companies and I now teach ancient crafts in Orkney - so lots of experience of tourism in Scotland. I also am a qualified mountain leader and have worked in montain rescue - I can help you plan walks, camps, access and equipment. I am best at finding cheap but good places to stay and helping people get off the beaten path, to discover the real Scotland, behind the tourist image.
I have lived in England, Wales and Scotland, travelled all over the UK and Europe and worked in tourism related jobs for over 20 years. If I can help I will. Please do not ask me general questions about London or specific hotels or restaurants - I now live in Scotland and cannot know the answers. Ask me interesting stuff - where to avoid other tourists, what is in the news, stuff like that - make it interesting for me too, please!
