What you do comes back to you tenfold.
I am a former foreign exchange student (Japan) with an intense interest in Japanese culture, language and people. I have 2 sons. My last trip to Japan was '98, and I miss it terribly!

I was an exchange student. Japan is a country where foreigners are still called Gaijin (literally person from the outside) so culture shock can be unbelievable for even the most outgoing students. However, the Japanese people are the warmest and most appreciative to those same "outsiders" who make any effort to cultivate a learning for their culture. There are still people in the country who have never met or seen a real live white person, but if you speak even a tinge of the language, they will invite you into their homes and treat you like royalty. I would be happy to share my experience or give any advice...:)
