Hey. Im interested in seeing oktoberfest next sept. I will be travelling out of london. Im thinkin a tour would be the best way to go? Has anyone done any of these tours before? Any recommendations would be good! Thanks

You don't really need a tour - all you need is to fly London to Munich and a hotel room in Munich ( expensive during Oktoberfest ) travel in Munich is easy

You can do it independently very easily, if you are looking to meet people consider camping. I went a few years ago and the campsite was basically an extension of the party. There were even shuttle buses to the action, it was great. I cant remember the name of the campsite but im sure google will be able help you out there.

Planning on going to this too - possibly meeting up with at least a friend from Germany and a fellow Canadian that will be studying in wales this fall. Let me know what your plans are and maybe we can connect. :) I'm currently planning on doing it independently, as I've found it to be pretty easy in the past (and cheaper), but that's still up in the air.

Went with Pillow last year, who were good on the organisation front, and a good way to meet 50 odd people, staying at the Thalkirchen campsite, which was pretty convenient as it's about a 10 min walk to the metro and then 10min to the festival. The bus back to London was an absolute killer though. I'd reiterate what others have said and do it yourself, whether you choose to camp or to hotel it - just definitely get flights. The Oktoberfest itself is super sociable, so you're bound to start chatting to people regardless.

As others have said, you can easily do it independently: flights and hotel are pretty straightforward to arrange nowadays :)
You may want to consider booking a table - check out the Oktoberfest.de website as you can contact the tent owners from there. I think most of them now have online booking available - when I tried in 2009, they wanted bookings sent in via fax
