How are you? What I mean is how are you really?

How long has it been since someone asked you how you were feeling... I used to work at a company where, at our Wednesday morning staff meetings, we would go around the room and each person would say, "I feel...[good/bad/crappy/blah blah blah]"

No one was allowed to judge them or make any comments about what they said. It was supposed to be an open forum where the staff were "free" to say what they wanted.

It was a really strange experience and in most instances no one actually said how they felt. As if you would in front of other staff members and senior management!!

Yesterday I had a really bad day and I really wanted to be able to tell someone how I felt.

So here's goes...

(For yesterday) I feel...

  • sad - my grandad died on Tuesday night
  • disappointed - because he died before September when I was due to arrive in the Philippines. I really wanted to see him!
  • stressed - I'm leaving on a RTW in 7 weeks and I've had to fly from the Gold Coast to Melbourne to house-sit for my mum while she goes to the Philippines for my grandad's funeral. I still have a few things to organise on the Gold Coast that I can't do in/from Melbourne.
  • relieved - because I sold my car the day before all this happened
  • anxious - because I have no idea how long mum will be away. I may just have to put her 4 dogs at the kennels for a few days (which I can't really afford!) while I go back to the Gold Coast to organise myself

So, how are you... How are you really?

I nearly always answer yeah i'm ok or i'm stressed but today

[*]Sad : I found out late last night that one of my friends committed sucide

[*]Frustrated : That i didn't know things had gotton so out of control

[*]Calm : because I hope he's at peace and can finally rest

[*]Stressed : because I have to work today and then go straight from here to talk to his parents.

[*]Confused : i don't know what to say to them and I know they'll keep asking me as i was one of the last people to speak to him

[*]Happy: to have known such a great person who had a real impact on my life and way of thinking

But besides that I know that this afternoon I will calm down and that as I'm not a morning person the day always gets better..... also that I don't dwell on being down or depressed so I'll be hyper tomorrow when I meet up with friends that I haven't seen in about two years...

but still if my colleagues ask, yeah i'm fine, no problems,

I'm really sorry about your Grandad. xx

I know how frustrating it can be to have to hold the fort. Then you end up feeling guilty for feeling frustrated. Dont worry, you'll get everything organised for your trip. 7 weeks is lots of time. :)

God Nikki, that's awful. I'm really sorry.

And if either of you dont want to/cant talk to people at work, feel free to unload it all on me if you like. Just PM me. I dont mind.

Today I feel

[*]Awkward - A really creepy individual that I work with put me in a very embarrassing situation on Sat night in front of everyone, and i feel really awkward at work now. He keeps sending me emails and following me into the kitchen when i go to make a coffee.

[*]Nervous - He's not the most stable indivdual and he's not taking the hint. It's putting me on edge.

[*]Excited - I'm going to Trailfinders this weekend to start the ball rolling on my RTW ticket, so I just think about that to forget about the weirdo in the office.

[*]Under pressure - work is crazy at the moment. I have some pretty important deadlines to meet at the end of April and the foot is on the gas. I seem to be working until 8 or 9 every evening trying to get it all done. I REAAALLY cant afford the time it's taking to type this.

Hmmm....reading the above, my emotions seems to revolve around work-related stuff at the moment.

:( sad for the tragedys you all have had the past few days.
confused that 14 hours of sleep a night isn't enough.
That I have been able to 'meet' so many fun and interesting people through TP!

I second Cupcake - I feel very sad for you and what you must be going through. Sympathies through a post aren't the same, but I send them out to you both, along with a hug.

Thanks all... wish me look visiting his family tonight.. I'm starting to relax a lot more about it though as I think we will mostly just swap memories which should make us laugh too ...

This is all touching stuff and i kinda know how you feel-long story!

It is good to have someone who actually asks how you are and will help and give you advice-and you know its sincere-i have a great mate!-one in a mill! everyone should have someone-eveyone should take a step back from time to time and just review things, it shouldn't take something bad for people to realise that life is what we make it-and we only have one life (well in this life!)

Good luck raven-there will come a time where you can talk about your mate and laugh about things and smile-but like everything-it always takes time! Like you said-he's at peace! you seem like you've got the right frame of mind!
