My mom and I have a day (this October) to get from Mainz to Geneva. We want to see some scenery and town, so no flying.
Realizing this will be a long trip (6+ hours), we decided to make a day of it and pick a few towns to stop at and wander around.
Regarding the trains, I am hoping some of you have done this before and can advise or confirm: DB-bahn full-fare (flexible) tickets looks like it would allow us to get on and off any train on the route between Mainz and Geneva, as long as we depart and arrive on the same day that it's valid. Does that sound correct? Alternatively, since we don't know yet which towns we might want to stop at, I considered just buying each segment as we go (for instance, a one-way from Mainz to Karlsruhe, then a one-way from Karlsruhe to Basel and so on), but it seems like that would probably be more expensive. and time consuming.
Also wanting to check that the DB-bahn ticket will be valid once we cross over into Switzerland...
Any thoughts or comments are welcomed and appreciated!!
