I like using "metro" to explore cities that have metro/subway systems.
It can be used offline once you download/update of the metro map you're traveling to and You can check which station to transfer , fastest routes, fares etc. Very convenient.

I would suggest you use Waze for your GPS and map needs generally. It gives you alerts about road hazards, suggests alternate routes to help you avert traffic and save you time. It can also estimate your expected time of arrival to your destination based on live traffic data.

You can also download Medium if you like reading, there is a ton of informative articles that will help you pass the time meaningfully whenever you find the need to do so.

Outside apps, I would also advise that you create more space or get a new memory card for your camera or mobile device to enable you create and store memories of your new environment. We like pictures (and videos) because they remind us of a lot of fun experiences.
