Hey all,
So I'm planning on travelling to Aus in December, landing in Cairns the first week of December travelling down the East Coast to reach Sydney for New Years (hopefully!!). Its the first time I'll be travelling solo (eeek!!), which I'm nervous and excited about at the same time! Does anybody have any tips on where to stay, things to see or if anyone has similar plans?

I'd recommend booking your NYE accommodation no later than May/June; most decent places tend to get booked around that time, and by August/September, the only places you'll be able to find will be horribly overpriced, have a minimum stay requirement of 10 days or more, or both.
December is also not a very good time of the year to be up north (Brisbane and above), as it's the start of the wet season. Don't get me wrong, still totally doable (well, as long as you don't get flooding), but something to be aware of.

Only just seen this!! I'm staying at Base hostels in Sydney probably going to book another hostel some time soon too as I've heard it gets pretty busy around November/December! Just need a few recommendations for hostels! X
