I am travelling to India at the end of the month, starting off in Goa for a few days...

I am looking for a place to stay for the first few nights, ideally would like to start heading to North Goa ... Does anyone have any recommendations?

Ideally would like to be near a beach, near some bars, price range anything up to £20/2000R a night.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I would recommend you to stay at 'Martin's Guest House', It is located on main Baga beach road. There is an open restaurant-bar just opposite to it, Karaoke nights happen every day and food is really good.

The Guest house is clean and the host named 'Mr. Desmund' is really nice and friendly. You can always sit with him in evening and have a beer. :)

Beach is hardly 5 mins from the Guest house and price is 1500Rs per night.

I don't know how you are arriving in Goa, but get yourself over to Arambol. There is one main street with fantastic restaurants, shops and guest houses. Don't worry about booking anything at that time of year and just walk the street and beach when you arrive and when you see something nice or someone starts telling you to stay at their place, ask to see the room, then bargain for a price. Getting a good deal on a room is the same as buying anything in India, it's all part of the game.
