Remember that some countries have a "high season" and a "low season" for hotel prices. This may be connected to "best weather available" periods. High season means higher hotel room rates. But you can often have a nice time visiting during off season when room prices are cheaper. (There are some conditions such as if you need snow for skiing you need available snow!)

From some countries you can fly overseas cheaper during certain months. From the US there are times where there are normal holiday price increases such as Christmas, New Years holiday periods. Also when kids get out of school in June there seems to be an increase in the cost of plane tickets to take advantage of kids and teachers heading overseas. Coincidentally when school begins again late August - September the price heads down for a period of time.

So, if cost is more of a priority for your overseas visit look at traveling during low season or off season or whatever the particular country calls it.

When you pull up the airline websites enter various dates for the country you want to visit and see if the price is higher or lower for certain months. Sometimes even the day of the week you schedule to fly might have a bearing on cost. (Move dates up and back and check often for events that might cause prices to decrease.)

Sometimes when there is a terrible serious air crash there is a little panic from passengers with previously booked flights going overseas. Some previously booked customers may cancel their flights. Some tour groups traveling in a huge group may have to re-schedule. These seats suddenly become available. If you are the sort who can pull up and go on a short notice you might make out!
