Well, I think you should first save some money and then, when you get the chance, you must take it at once, don't think twice and GO! :)
I don't know what you mean by "being on the same boat". I think anybody here wants to travel and has to put up with school or work at the same time... ;)

Ask your lecturers for contacts out there.
Maybe joinu a school there, get funding froman architecture company.

Ive been in and I still in the process of a similar situation to you!!!!Im a Fashion Student and last year, which was my second year, we got given 6 weeks, to go off and do a placement! It was left entirely up to us what we wanted to do!Everyone saw it as a chore but I had dreamed of this moment as I had always had plans for years that I wanted to spend my placement time in New York!Everyone just settled for random companies in London, some even arranging thier placements a few days before they started but i was adament that i both wanted and needed to do this New York thing! To be honest University wasnt very supportive,in all fairness they thought it was fantastic that I wanted to do this and were impressed with my determination but when it came to them helping me out with contacts, advice and funding information they were hopeless!!!!In the end I devoted myself to the internet and found a great company who offered me a fantastic placement!with that I went and booked a flight and the company gave me a list of suitable places I could stay at!That was my first solo trip and also my first time in America and it was my most enriching and incredible experience to date!!!It inspired me so much that I then decided to defer my final year for one year only to use the opportunity to both travel and do more uni related placements!Im due to leave in 4 and a half weeks and Im so excited!!!!Uni has been great with it, Ive been doing a lot of uni work, got my dissertion all done a year in advance, saved up enough money to support myself thru my final year as well as fund a round the world trip!Been working for the past 7 months and now Im ready to jet off!!!!!Heading back to New York first to do a placement again, then onto LA, then to Japan to both catch up with industry contacts before spending a few weeks travelling around South East Asia, which Im using as an excuse to gain inspiration!!!!ha ha!
In the whole, it was a big decision to defer for this year and leave all my classmates behind and kind of fall out of uni life but now Ive gained some great job offers for when i graduate as well as get all the nasty dissertaion stuff out of the way, got a chance to do some much needed travelling and Im now totally motivated and raring to go for my final year!!!!!
On the other hand if you were wanting to stay in uni and not defer you could look into the Erasmus programme, foreign exchange or a sponsored placement and just intertwine the travelling into it all!!!!Hope this helps!!!ive talked for ages!!!drog me a line if you have any questions or stuff!

Ye, that is a really hard decision. Its just not the actual time travelling your taking out,(well for me anyway)I have to work alot to save the funds for it too, why cant you just have everything! I do think its worth putting your studies on hold to travel or plan to go when you have finished anyway!

Hey Robbie

I'm a student aswell.Studying my first year tourism in college. I'm also keen to travelling.Only way to save up some money for travels is to work at the same time.I'm working in a part-time job 2-3 times a week 5-6 hours p/d.It's okay for now so that my studies will not get messed up, if you know what I mean?
During the summer I'll work alot more.My plan is to go for my next RTW-trip in summer 2006.
Happy savings!

I'm first year, planning on going away this summer, I've been scrimping bits of my student loan and saving away, will get a job at the beginning of summer and go away towards the end, I think it's important to be realistic about travelling whilst a student, you don't want to get into too much debt eh?
I'd say plan a short trip and don't be over ambitious, I'm probably gonna go to just one country and do my advanced diver...
Just a thought :)

One idea that you could manage is what a friend of mine here is doing who's an archetecture student, is you can do a teaching english as a second language in a country in Asia, like Malaysia or Japan with JET or something. You earn A LOT of money, usually, teaching English in Japan, and it is really easy. This is what I've heard.
