We took a month and that included climbing Mt Kinabalu and having New Year at the tip of Borneo in Kudat.

Besides hiking Mount Kinabalu, you should visit the Kinabatangan River basin in Sabah. Check this Web site for an overview:

If you're going to the Sepilok orangutan sanctuary, you should also visit the Labuk Bay proboscis monkey sanctuary.

You can take a shared taxi or a minibus from Kota Kinabalu to Kinabalu National Park. The ride takes about 90 minutes. On the way to the shared taxi terminus is the long-distance bus stop where you can check on the daily buses to Brunei. If you're planning to do the NP as a daytrip, make sure you don't wait until late in the day to grab a shared ride back to Kota Kinabalu. After a certain hour, it's more difficult to find transportation; and you're likely to have to pay more.

I've taken train rides around the world, including this one in Sabah:

You'll have a grand time!

How come you've missed Sri Lanka the most beautiful among all these. It is an island just below India. Cost friendly. Seasonal changes are very minimal between places. You can adapt to any place any time of the year.

Much to offer for a traveler be it cultural, history, fun and leisure, beaches, whales and dolphins, you name it. Sri Lanka has the widest variety to experience within a few days and less travelling.

Our tourism industry is very matured in handling visitors from any continent as the players are deft with experience for many decades.

Do write to me for your next trip around and I'll get you the right guys to make you comfortable with travel, food and lodging and value for price!

Just use your 'travellerspoint' planner and map to plot your journey. If you make up your own itinerary you will commit most of it to memory; and will know where you're going without having to check your devices and guide book the whole time. Four months is a good amount of time.

I agree on Sri Lanka. You can get super cheap flights from KLIA to anywhere in the region.

Enjoy your epic're gonna love it!
