Hi all,

I recently went hiking for a month in Portugal (in the south-west). It was the first time that i was travelling by myself and i enjoyed it so much!! Right now i'm planning to go hiking/city hopping somewhere again in October but i dont really know where to start. I've been in France,Spain and Italy but apart from that i dont really know what to expect from Europe. What country's would you recommend? I really enjoy hiking in the nature (beaches, cliffs, mountains) but I had in great time in Lisbon as well, so great cities are not excluded :)

Is it early or late October?

Greece might be an idea. You can mix and match according to your interests... Mainland or islands or both and sightseen and city life too.

Pelion area on mainland is a place not many foreigners know about for example, plenty of nice hiking around:

Then there is plenty of hiking even on the -on the very beatten track- popular Cycladic islands:

And of course there are hikes around spots that are known for completely different reasons, such as the Delphi ancient path:

A few ideas out of a gazillion...

The best place to go is always the place that interests YOU the most right now. Where anyone else would go is irrelevant.

Eastern Europe can be great, especially as your money goes about 3x further than in the west.

There are loads of cities with old world charm and lots to see. For starters Budapest Prague Krakow Belgrade Bratislava Tallinn Riga Kiev Vilnius.

For the outdoors, Tatras mountains or Transylvania are good. Also look up Lake Bled near Ljubljana.
