I was planning to spend about two weeks (not more) at the end of August to visit Spain and maybe also Portugal with friends..

Does anyone have an idea about prices? Train...and hostels? Will it be easy to find cheap places once we are there (since we are not planning to book anything ahead)?

Any help given is more than welcome...! I'm really bad at organising this stuff...although there's not much to organise I wanna get a basic idea of economical issues especially!

Hello ariuski,

Budget, as a rule, about $50.00 (I mean Canadian dollars, but U.S. would be great) per day of your trip, excluding really extremely pricey things like your airplane tix there and back (unless you're flying cheap local air ). Then you should be fine money-wise. Spain is pretty inexpensive.

Also check out the official site of Renfe, the Spanish railways:

I've travelled by train in Spain a couple of times and both have been nice experiences. The trains were modern, on time, and quite affordable.
